I had a walmart moment....

By "Walmart moment" I am referring to my post about the lady in Walmart that was yelling at her child. You can read it here.

I am SO thankful for FB. Let me explain before you all start bashing me. Ha! I am in a few groups that are just for parents/caregivers who have autistic children. They are some of the most supportive people I have ever "met." They make me laugh, calm me down, and pick me up.

Last night, I had a small pity party. I posted this, "I just want Gavin to talk. My biggest fear is that he will never talk. All he can say is momma, ow momma, oh momma, and num-num." One member, commented, "Bridgette, that is great! "Momma" is one of the words a lot of us parents have never heard, and would give anything to hear!" She didn't mean it in a rude way. She just wanted me to realize that him saying anything was a good thing.

My face looked like that! ^^^ Oh my goodness! She is exactly right!!! All I could think about was the blog post I made not too long ago about the woman in Walmart. I WAS that woman yesterday. No, I wasn't yelling at my children, but I was complaining about something that some people would die for.

So, instead of this post being about what I wish Gavin would say or do, I want it to be about how grateful I am for what he does NOW.

I am grateful that:

1. He does say "momma."

2. He loves to give hugs and kisses.

3. He loves to cuddle.

4. He is nice to Keegan (most of the time haha).

5. He is laid back.

6. He is happy *most* of the time. He has his moments, but we ALL do!

7. His laugh and smile is contagious.

8. I am grateful that he has learned a new word (num-num).

9.  His "happy dance" is the cutest thing EVER!

10. He teaches me something new every single day.

This list could go on for miles, but I think you get the point. :)

I just want to say thank you to my friends, family, FB friends, friends in each autism group, but a BIG thank you goes to Patty. Patty, you opened my eyes more than you'll ever know. Saying that last night, is what I needed to read. I needed that "wake up call."
